Growth Spurt (noun)
The phrase used universally by parents to dismiss any ‘out of the ordinary’ behaviour, symptom, secretion, noise or smell from their child. Can be used simultaneously as both the question and the answer, and also as a verb i.e. “she’s a bit growth-spurty today.” Used in abundance when being patronised by others, especially the elderly and minor health professionals, and if necessary can be said with particular malice when dealing with those who do not have children themselves (with the addition of a smug grin and/or shooing gesture if needed).
